Chariot Tales

Journey for a CauseJourney for a cause

I'm thrilled to have successfully run solo across Canada in support of cats and dogs. I left St. John's NL on April 15, 2007 and finished in Vancouver on Oct. 29, 2007. I ran between 40 to 50km a day through all kinds of conditions. A total of 7158 km.

It was an amazing journey. I met so many wonderful people along the way. I used the Chariot Cheetah to carry all my gear. About 50 lbs. It stood up to the weather and handled the roads with no problem. The additional wheel in the front made going up and down hills a lot easier. Its design and durability made it possible for me to go the distance. I had never done anything like this before and having the Chariot made life on the road for me so much better. It’s a must for anyone carrying an extra load. Thanks Chariot for helping make it possible.

Catriona Le May Doan is the world record holder* in 500m speed skating. After she gave birth to daughter Greta, she and her husband Bart (a serious athlete as well) began to use a Chariot Cougar 1 as part of their parenting and training, which also maximizes their family time. The ‘Cat’ (her nickname in the press), credits walking and running with Greta - and their Chariot as contributing to her amazing postpartum shape – along with a sensible diet. For example, just 3 months after Greta’s birth, Catriona had lost almost all her pregnancy weight gain. Catriona, a four-time Olympian, has 2 Olympic Gold medals plus a Bronze and a long list of sporting achievements in addition to her multiple World Records. Chariot Carriers is honored that Catriona is using a Chariot.

How to Break a Marathon RecordHow to break a marathon record

Curtis and Ali Sampson broke the record* for fastest marathon with a (Chariot!) Stroller in 2004. They used their Chariot Cougar 1 at the 2004 Calgary ‘Stampede’ Marathon. They knocked more than 49 minutes off the previous record. Little sister Gracen, cheered them on from the sidelines. She normally rides beside Ali in their other Chariot, a Cougar 2, on their regular training runs. To cross train, Curtis bike rides to work, including winter, and rides twice weekly with the girls using the Chariot's trailer mode. The girl’s mom, Gerri also enjoys running with the active girls, who talk, sing and play with their toys en-route. On average, the Sampson family uses their 2 Chariots a combined 5 hours a week, thus, they have no desire to maintain 2 costly automobiles. In fact they chose a minivan so either Chariot can roll right into the rear of the van, without folding, always ready for instant use.

* 26.2 miles (or 42.2 km) in 3 hrs 5 min 12 seconds. The record has since been beaten, to which Curtis responded, “Congratulations, records are mean to be broken. Ali still keeps the experience! ”)

Chariot Carriers is pleased to congratulate Jesper Olsen on his achievements and ratification by Guinness World Records as the holder of two of their coveted titles. Jesper, from Denmark became the first person to run around the world, and on the way, breaking the record for the longest continuous run. He started in London, in 2005 and ran 40–50 km (25–30 mi) a day across Eurasia, Australia, Western USA and Canada over 22 months. Jesper is still running Ultra Races and working in Copenhagen, and is in the planning stages of his second circumference in 2008, this time going the Middle East to South East Asia Route and possibly including Africa. He plans to again include a Chariot Carrier to carry his gear when not vehicle supported.

Who Needs a Rail PassWho Needs A Rail Pass?

In 2000 a Dutch couple walked 84 days with their Cabriolet and Hiker Kit for 1,745 km (>1,000 miles) from The Netherlands to Rome, and then 724 km (450 miles) from San Sebastien to Santiago de Compostella, Spain. They carried a load of 30 kgs (66 lbs). As regular walkers of long pilgrimage trails, this weight was previously in backpacks, until they met a family traveling with a Chariot bike trailer. They liked the idea of the CTS conversion system so they bought their own Cabriolet with a Hiking Kit, as this duo perfectly matched their needs.

I really like the trailer. I don’t drive so I use it as my car. Everything fits perfectly in it and the kids are always comfortable. In the winter they are very cozy inside it.
